A soulful mountain lodge in Gulmit, Hunza, where guests feel at home, conversations come easily, and time slows down.
Silk Route Lodge was never meant to be a hotel in the traditional sense. It was created as a personal sanctuary; a place where people could feel grounded, welcome, and at ease. We like to call it a ‘home-tel’, because it literally feels like a home away from home. Minus the chores.
Located in Gulmit along the Karakoram Highway, the Silk Route is spread across 45 kanals of apple orchards, open lawns, riverfront space, and uninterrupted mountain views.
Our rooms are designed with simplicity and comfort in mind. Spacious, clean, and filled with natural light, each room offers a quiet place to rest and reset.
Silk Route Lodge is purpose-built for retreats; yoga, wellness, writing, art, culinary, and creative gatherings that value intimacy, depth, and genuine connection. We collaborate with thoughtful practitioners and facilitators to create experiences that feel considered, immersive, and true to the spirit of the place.
At Silk Route Lodge, activities are optional. Never scheduled, never rushed. Guests can explore at their own pace, guided by curiosity rather than checklists.
Life at Silk Route Lodge unfolds naturally. Mornings are slow. Meals are shared. Afternoons stretch into walks, work, or rest. Evenings bring people together; sometimes over conversation, sometimes in comfortable silence.
Our common spaces, lawns, and dining areas are designed to encourage togetherness without forcing it. Guests often find themselves forming friendships, exchanging stories, or simply enjoying the feeling of being exactly where they need to be.
For those who work remotely(looking at all you digital nomads), Silk Route Lodge offers something rare: reliable fiber internet in a setting that invites balance.
Guests often come for a short stay and end up extending for weeks. Work happens in quiet corners and sunlit rooms, broken up by walks, shared meals, and moments of stillness.
Here, productivity finds a gentler rhythm.
‘Nested’ next to the lodge is Red Nest Café, a lively, welcoming space for both travellers and locals.

Silk Route Lodge is open from mid-March to early November, with each part of the season offering a slightly different experience of Hunza.
The season begins quietly. Days are sunny, crisp, and pleasant, while nights are still cold. With heating and electric blankets, evenings feel warm and comfortable indoors.
As April arrives, the valley begins to transform. Blossoms appear first across Hunza in early April and reach Gulmit by mid-month, bringing with them one of the most beautiful times to be here.
This is when everything feels balanced. Days are warm and comfortable, nights are cool, and the valley begins to fill with fruit. Cherry season starts in May and carries through July, followed closely by apricots, which ripen in abundance through August. It’s an easy, gentle time to explore, rest, and stay longer.
The warmest months of the season, though still far from overwhelming. The air remains dry and pleasant, and even at its peak, the heat is softened by shade and breeze.
Mornings and evenings are ideal for outdoor movement, while afternoons are best spent resting under trees or indoors. This is also when the valley is rich with fruit — mulberries, plums, peaches, figs, and the last of the apricots.
The air begins to cool, and the valley slowly shifts into autumn. By early October, the landscape turns golden, and by mid-month, autumn is in full bloom.
Apples, pears, and walnuts are harvested during this time, and the pace becomes quieter again. As temperatures drop, heating is reintroduced, making evenings warm and cozy once more.
